Meet Mandy Horn!
Mandy is ANG’s HR Project Specialist. Her role is to provide consulting support within the company on salary data and job descriptions. She also gets to work on a variety of other projects, which allows her to research and gather data.
What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I enjoy all the research and critical thinking that is involved with this role. I have learned so much working here! With the variety of projects I do, it really makes every day interesting.
How long have you been with the company? How have you been able to grow personally and/or professionally since you started?
I have been with ANG just over a year and a half. I started as the Talent Acquisition Coordinator for the first year and the opportunity to move to my current role happened at the beginning of this year. I enjoy the way this role has challenged me, and I have grown so much since joining All Native Group.
What has been one of your favorite projects so far, and why?
I had the privilege of being part of the team working on the Hybrid Work Schedule. It has been so awesome watching the different stages this project has gone through and exciting seeing this change roll-out. I enjoyed working with this team and the fact that it included more than ANG, as we collaborated with Ho-Chunk, Inc. team members on this project, too. It has been excellent getting to know so many people through this process.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I really enjoy being crafty. Especially in the winter, you will find me sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking – I just enjoy being creative! This year, I joined an adult tennis group where we play weekly with whomever can make it. I hadn’t played since high school, so it is fun to get back into it after 20 years!
Since Cub Scouts began including girls in their program, I have been a volunteer for my daughter’s Cub Scout den. It is something that we do as a family, and it has been awesome to see her learn and do things that typically were reserved for boys. She has her goal to be an Eagle Scout and I will continue to support her as she works towards that goal!
What is something about you that might surprise people?
I have done flowers as a semi-professional hobby. I learned from my mom who worked at a floral shop when I was young. I have done flowers for over 30 weddings, as well as arrangements for funerals, holidays, and centerpieces for events. Brides have had some really interesting requests – such as a Lego mini-figure attached to all the boutonnieres or a floral dog collar for their dog to wear during the ceremony. I even did the flowers for my own wedding. I don’t do it as much anymore, but it is a skill I am glad to have, and I love having fresh flowers in my home regularly!
What has surprised you about working for ANG? Or what insights or advice would you give to someone who is thinking about applying to work here or recently started?
I have been surprised by how much growth opportunity there has been. Looking back over the past year and a half, I am just amazed at projects I have been a part of and opportunities I have had to use my strengths and abilities. For someone coming to the team, I would definitely say that there are opportunities to really apply your skills and abilities in ways that allow growth and challenge you, if you are willing to take those opportunities.
What are you looking forward to this summer or have you done anything fun or interesting already?
This summer, we have been “tourists” in our own city. Colorado Springs has so many things to do and see. We have gone to the Cliff Dwellings, Olympic Museum, Cave of the Winds, high tea in a castle, and of course, the mountains for fishing, camping, and hiking.
But my family’s favorite summer tradition is “S’mores Sundays.” We try to have s’mores in our backyard many Sundays during the summer.
